BIRD was registered as a Society on 10-01-1998 under the Societies Act XXI of 1860 with its registered office at 223, Prag academy Building , R.G.Baruah Road , Guwahati – 24, district Kamrup , Assam. Regd. No: KAM/240/G/498 of 1997-98. NITI Ayog Registration No. AS/2018/0184836. The NGO is also registered under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India (for foreign contribution) FCRA No. 020780071 dtd. 14-01-2012. And Registered 80-G 5 (vi) and 12-A of Income Tax.
BIRD as NGO is a non-profit making, non-political, democratic, social and charitable organization with broad aims and objectives as below.
- To render consultancy for identifying, planning and executing need- based development projects for government development agencies and others which may require the services of BIRD .
- To carry out socio-economic survey, field survey, experiments, trial and demonstration with training in the aspects of urban and rural development activities emphasizing industry, education, medical, engineering, forestry, agriculture, sericulture, veterinary and allied fields such as environment etc .
- To assess training needs at various levels and conduct training program on the basis of findings of such assessment.
- To organize and promote seminars symposia, workshop, training camps at various places in the field of industry, engineering, medical, educational, agriculture, sericulture and allied fields.
- To study behavioral science problems for helping and promoting economic and general development.
- To conduct training programs and implement projects as may be assigned by client organization.
- To organize centers, branches at various places and to co-operate with agencies of similar objectives.
- To take up any other program relating rural development.
- To receive grant in aid from Govt. loaded bodies, corporate or any other source for fulfillment of the objectives of BIRD.
Area of Operation
The activities of BIRD are extended to the whole of North East India, in rural and urban areas.
Expertise of the BIRD
We have at present more than 30 members having expertise in various fields of agriculture (viz- Soil Science, Agronomy, Extension, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Plant Breeding and genetics, Water management). Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries, Statistics, Banking, Marketing, Information Technology etc. These personnel, most of whom have superannuated as bureaucrats, academicians, researchers, technocrats have been formulating and executing BIRD’s rural development programme over the years.
How far BIRD is successful to its commitments
BIRD’s experience with Williamson Magor, ABITA, CAPART, NEDFI, NABARD, National Horticulture Board and govt. department like Agriculture is an intermingling of mind and resources which assures success. BIRD has so far broken frontiers of yield advancement in rice and other crops in farmers field all over Assam. Such achievements are backed by proper training, workshop, seminars timely distribution of inputs to the target groups.
Since last few years BIRD was entrusted with implementing Sanitation Projects under the Swach Bharat Abhijan sponsored by various corporate companies.
